Margaret Camp

Margaret Camp is an Associate Professor in the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Arizona. She is affiliated with the Center for East Asian Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, and the Institute for LGBT Studies. Her academic journey includes a BA in Japanese and Linguistics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and MA and PhD degrees from the University of Arizona.

Dr. Camp’s research investigates the intersection of gender, sexuality, and language in Japanese, with a focus on sociolinguistic and phonetic differences between lesbian and heterosexual women’s speech. Her work also addresses language ideology and second language pedagogy.
