Associate Professor Maren Viol is currently Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality at British University Vietnam (BUV), Faculty of Business. She has previously held senior lecturer and program leadership roles at Glasgow Caledonian University Vietnam (2020-2022), British University Vietnam (2016-2019), and Edinburgh Napier University (2011-2016). A Fellow of Advance HE, her work spans commemorative narratives, memory studies, semiotics, sustainable tourism, and tourism education.

Her research explores intersections of collective memory, cultural heritage, and event tourism, particularly focusing on the Berlin Wall anniversaries. She also investigates decolonizing tourism curricula, sustainable practices, and millennial travel behavior.
Maren has received multiple research excellence awards (2011-2015) and presented at international conferences in Vietnam, Indonesia, France, and the Netherlands. Her publications span journals and book chapters on commemorative events, transnational education frameworks, and rural tourism dynamics.
