Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marek Mitka is an Associate Professor at the University of Prešov's Faculty of Arts, affiliated with the Institute of Central European Studies. He holds a PhD in Literary Science and has conducted extensive research stays at institutions such as Jagiellonian University (Poland) and the University of Sofia (Bulgaria). His academic roles include editorial board memberships for journals like Rak - Revue aktuálnej kultúry and Opera Litteraria.
Education: B.A. (2004) and PhD (2008) in Slavonic Studies and Literary Science from the University of Prešov. His research focuses on 20th/21st-century literatures of Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and Czechia, with emphases on literary theory, translation studies, and Central European cultural identity.
Research projects include VEGA grants on interliterary relations, Slovak literature development, and Central European cultural history. He has authored/co-authored monographs on topics like comparative literature analysis, modern Slovak prose, and poetics of text. His teaching spans Central European literatures, world literature, and translation didactics.
Professional memberships include editorial roles in literary journals and participation in international literary prize juries. Notable publications include studies on post-1989 Slavic prose, Central European modernity, and comparative cultural dictionaries.
