Marein Rahn

Prof. Dr. Marein Rahn serves as a Professor in the Institute of Physics at the University of Augsburg, within the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology. He leads the Experimental Physics VI research group, focusing on experimental and theoretical condensed matter physics through advanced laboratory techniques and collaborative scientific inquiry.

His research spans Condensed Matter Physics with specialized expertise in Crystal Growth (developing novel crystalline materials), Low Temperature Physics (ultra-cryogenic experimental systems), Thin Film Physics (deposition and characterization of nanoscale films), and Theoretical Physics (modeling complex material behaviors). The group integrates experimental crystal growth, precision low-temperature measurements, thin film fabrication, and computational modeling to investigate quantum phenomena in solid-state systems.

Prof. Rahn has received the prestigious Emmy Noether Grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG), which supports outstanding early-career researchers in establishing independent research groups. This award recognizes his innovative contributions to condensed matter physics and provides critical funding for his experimental program.

He actively supervises Bachelor and Master projects, providing students with hands-on research experience in state-of-the-art laboratories. His mentorship fosters technical skills in crystal growth, cryogenic instrumentation, and thin film analysis through direct involvement in ongoing research initiatives. The research group maintains strong collaborative ties with national and international institutions through the SolidCryo initiative, securing additional project-based funding for specialized equipment and personnel.

The Experimental Physics VI laboratory features advanced crystal growth facilities, dilution refrigerators for milli-Kelvin measurements, molecular beam epitaxy systems for thin film deposition, and theoretical computation clusters. The group participates in the SolidCryo network, focusing on interdisciplinary research in quantum materials at cryogenic temperatures and developing next-generation experimental methodologies for condensed matter studies.
