Mareike Wagner is a researcher affiliated with the Institute for Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the University of Tübingen, Faculty of Humanities. Her work focuses on Late Period Egyptian culture, religious concepts, and funerary texts, particularly within the Theban necropolis.

Her research examines the intersection of religious iconography, funerary literature, and archaeological documentation, including detailed studies of sarcophagus inscriptions, coffin texts, and astronomical symbols like the h3-b3=s stars. She has contributed to projects such as the excavation of Monthemhet’s tomb (TT 34) and the analysis of Ibi’s sarcophagi in Thebes.
Recent publications highlight her expertise in textual evolution from Coffin Texts to the Book of the Dead and the liturgical functions of funerary inscriptions. She collaborates with institutions like the German Archaeological Institute (DAI Kairo) and has secured funding from the DFG and Fritz-Thyssen Stiftung.
