Mareike Grotheer

Dr. Mareike Grotheer is a Junior Group Leader at the Educational Neuroscience Group within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychology at Philipps University of Marburg, Germany. She earned her doctorate at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Vision and Perception Neuroscience Lab at Stanford University. Her research focuses on how schooling and learning interact with brain structure and function, particularly in white matter development for math and literacy acquisition. She leads projects combining fMRI, dMRI, and behavioral data to explore neural substrates of educational skills and developmental disorders.

Her recent publications highlight trends in white matter tractography, myelination dynamics, and multimodal neuroimaging to address learning disabilities and cortical microstructure. Her team includes doctoral students like Alexia Dalski and Vicente Aguilera Gonzalez, who investigate reading and mathematical cognition in children. Mareike also collaborates with the Center for Mind, Brain and Behavior (CMBB), integrating interdisciplinary approaches to educational neuroscience.
