Maree Corkeron holds the position of Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the School of Earth and Oceans, University of Western Australia, and previously served as Senior Lecturer at James Cook University (2021–2022). Her research focuses on Precambrian Earth systems, particularly glacial events of the Cryogenian and Ediacaran periods, microbial contributions to carbonate reef frameworks, and medical geology linking diseases to geological environments. Key projects include studies on Cryogenian reefs in South Australia’s Flinders Range and Neoproterozoic deposits in Western Australia’s Kimberley region.
Education: PhD in Geoscience from the University of Western Australia (2003), specializing in Neoproterozoic glacial events. Professional experience includes industry roles in Queensland’s Palaeozoic and Mesozoic basins, addressing coal, coal seam gas, and hydrogeological challenges.
Research interests span sedimentology, carbonate geochemistry, and basin analysis, with notable contributions to stromatolite morphology, microbial biomarkers, and the interplay between climatic shifts and biological evolution. Her work bridges geological processes and public health through medical geology projects like Melioidosis and Ross River Virus investigations.
Publications highlight advanced seismic imaging techniques for mafic igneous units, glacial geomorphology in deep-time contexts, and Neoproterozoic stratigraphy in Australia. Collaborative efforts include global paleogeographic reconstructions and interdisciplinary climate studies.
