Mardelle Akins is an Assistant Professor and Roland Black Endowed Chair in Biological Sciences at Sam Houston State University. Her research utilizes Drosophila models to investigate tumor-induced tissue remodeling, focusing on cancer cachexia and muscle wasting mechanisms.
Current projects examine genetic modifiers of tumor-host interactions and their effects on muscle and adipose tissues. Her laboratory employs genetic screening approaches to identify signaling pathways involved in systemic tumor effects.
