Dr Marcus Witt is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Mathematics Education at the University of the West of England, within the ACE - Education and Childhood department. He joined UWE in January 2013 after 5 years working in initial teacher education at Bath Spa University and prior experience as a primary school teacher in schools in and around Bristol.

Research Interests: Dr Witt's research focuses on the role of personality in learning, particularly supporting quieter or more introverted and anxious children in mathematics education. He investigates maths anxiety in children and pre-service teachers, mathematical cognition, and the impact of working memory on mathematical learning. His doctoral study explored the possibility of low-tech, low-budget working memory training to support gains in children's mathematical learning. Additional interests include primary mathematics pedagogy and enhancing school placements for trainee teachers.
