Marcus Velke is a researcher at the Department of East European History, University of Bonn. His work focuses on Baltic displaced persons (DPs), Estonian exile communities, and LGBTQ+ history in Germany from 1945-1969, with a particular emphasis on repression and emancipation of homosexual lifestyles in the 19th and 20th centuries.

His research spans DP integration in post-WWII Germany, Baltic student organizations in exile, and medical associations' history. Current projects examine Estonian diaspora in West Germany (1950-1991) and DP camps in Fulda. Publications include co-edited volumes on DP research, and essays on LGBTQ+ persecution under Section 175 of the German Penal Code. Collaborations with governmental bodies and museums address gaps in LGBTI* history in North Rhine-Westphalia.
