LiBrizzi's research investigates how regional folklore and supernatural narratives shape cultural identity in Maine, combining creative output with academic analysis of historical trauma and community memory. His critical theory framework examines power dynamics in ghost stories and marginalized histories.
His publications consistently explore Maine's haunted heritage, with 'Lost Atusville' (2009) gaining national recognition for its examination of African American Revolutionary War settlements, while 'Haunted Islands' (2017) and 'Ghosts of Acadia' (2011) document supernatural folklore across coastal and Acadian regions. Several works have inspired television productions, including PBS documentaries and Weather Channel episodes.
As Managing Editor of the Library of Early Maine Literature, LiBrizzi leads collaborative scholarly projects producing critical editions of rare Maine texts, preserving regional literary heritage through editorial teams and academic partnerships.
