Marcus D. Harvey serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Montclair State University's College of the Arts. A First-Generation college graduate, he is an award-winning performer, writer, director, and cultural strategist specializing in Black Theatre and August Wilson.
His educational background includes:
- MFA in Acting from Brooklyn College
- MA in Dramatic Writing for Social Change from NYU
- Dual undergraduate degrees in Dramatic Arts and Performance Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill
Harvey's research and creative practice centers on Acting, Directing, and Solo Performance with deep expertise in August Wilson's works. He explores mental health crises in communities of color through his commissioned play a bright light addressing depression and suicide among Black and Latin youth in Trenton, NJ. As an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion strategist, he partners with theater organizations to create inclusive spaces for marginalized artists.
