Dr. Marcus Birkenkrahe is an Associate Professor of Data Science at Lyon College since 2021, on leave from the Berlin School of Economics and Law. He holds a PhD in theoretical physics (lattice gauge theory) and has extensive publications across data science education, knowledge management, e-learning, and computational physics. His work emphasizes integrating literate programming and AI tools into pedagogy.
Education: PhD in Theoretical Physics. Research focuses on applying neural networks, multigrid methods, and process modeling to education and data science. He serves as associate editor of the International Journal of Data Science and editorial board member for two additional journals.
His recent articles explore AI in education, flipped classrooms, and innovative teaching methodologies. Notable contributions include studies on generative AI usage patterns at liberal arts colleges and the role of coding assistants in programming education.
He has developed usability frameworks for process mining tools and pioneered virtual classroom techniques using 3D environments. His work bridges theoretical physics foundations with modern educational technologies.
