Marcos Dopico Castro

Marcos Dopico Castro is a full professor at the Faculty of Design, Pontevedra Campus, University of Vigo. He holds a PhD in Fine Arts (2009) from the University of Vigo and specializes in Typography Design, Corporate Identity Design, and the interplay between tradition and modernity in Galician design.

• Leadership roles: Dean of Faculty of Design (2024), former Vice-Dean for Quality (2015-2019), former Corporate Image Area Director (2011-2015)

His research explores the continuity of modernist principles in contemporary typography, the relationship between tradition and regional identity in design, and corporate identity systems. He pioneered typography design in Galicia through his MaisTypes type foundry.

Recent publications include A Galicia deseñada: Símbolos marcas e identidades gráficas (2024), which examines regional visual identity systems. His work has been featured in major exhibitions including From Spain With Design: Identity and territory (2021-2022) and Porto Design Biennale (2023).

• Scientific Awards: Bronze Laus award (2023)

He has curated significant design exhibitions such as A Galicia deseñada: Signs, symbols and graphic identities (2022-2023) and contributed to institutional design standards as Corporate Image Area Director. Currently Dean of the Faculty of Design, he oversees academic programs including the new Bachelor in Design and Master in Design and Creative Direction in Fashion (launched 2023/2024).
