Marcos Dantus is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Michigan State University. His research bridges ultrafast laser spectroscopy, quantum science, and strong-field physics to advance applications in chemistry, biology, and security.
- Ph.D., California Institute of Technology (1991)
- B.A. & M.A., Brandeis University (1985)
Dantus pioneered femtochemistry and ultrafast pulse shaping to study molecular processes like bond formation and fragmentation in strong fields. His work includes quantum coherent control, nonlinear optical processes, and quantum information science applications.
His recent publications focus on solvent-solute interactions, proton transfer mechanisms, and strong-field molecular dynamics, reflecting his expertise in chemical physics and quantum technology. He has received multiple accolades including fellowships from the American Physical Society and National Academy of Inventors.
- Clauser Prize (Caltech)
- Nobel Signature Award (ACS)
- MSU Foundation Professor (2016)
- National Academy of Inventors Fellow
- MSU Innovator of the Year (2013)
Dantus mentors a multidisciplinary team and emphasizes professional development for students aiming for academia, industry, or entrepreneurship. He has extensive funding from AFOSR, ARO, DARPA, and DHS. His lab develops educational tools, including super phasor analysis software and femtosecond laser shaping instructional videos.
