Prof. Marco Stampanoni is a Full Professor at ETH Zurich's Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, affiliated with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering where he leads the Division for X-ray Imaging and Microscopy. Simultaneously, he heads the X-ray Tomography Group at the Paul Scherrer Institut. His research focuses on developing novel X-ray instruments for non-invasive investigations across scales, from cellular to human applications, with emphasis on synchrotron-based phase contrast imaging and clinical radiology.
His work encompasses phase contrast X-ray microscopy, real-time tomography, and nanoscale imaging. Key projects include translating synchrotron technologies to conventional X-ray sources and advancing non-destructive testing methodologies.
Honors include the Dalle Molle Foundation Award for pioneering X-ray phase contrast mammography and ETH Silver Medal for his doctoral thesis. He contributes to international advisory committees for synchrotron facilities worldwide and co-founded GratXray AG.
