Marco Schiavon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Horticulture at the University of Florida/IFAS Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center. His work bridges research and extension, focusing on environmentally compatible turfgrass management to address water conservation, drought tolerance, and sustainable urban landscaping.
His research explores strategies such as drought-resistant cultivars, deficit irrigation, alternative water sources (e.g., effluent), and wetting agents to optimize turfgrass systems. He collaborates with biologists, resource managers, and industry leaders to solve current and future challenges in turfgrass health.
Recent publications highlight trends in
- Thatch management in warm-season grasses
- Herbicide resistance strategies
- Nutrient leaching mitigation
- Recycled water applications
- Multispectral turf monitoring
- Microbiome interactions in nitrogen fixation
