Marco Marini

Marco Marini is a Full Professor of Economics at the Department of Social and Economic Sciences, Faculty of Political Science, Sociology, and Communication, Sapienza University of Rome. He serves as Director of the B.Sc. in International Economic and Financial Relations and has held various leadership positions including President of the Faculty Assurance Quality Office from 2020-2025. His academic career spans over two decades with previous appointments as Associate Professor at Sapienza University and the University of Urbino.

Dr. Marini earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics (1995-1998), following an M.Phil in Economics from LSE (1994-1995), a Doctorate in Economics from Sapienza University of Rome (1990-1993), and a Master of Arts in Economics from UCL, Louvain, Belgium (1991-1992). He completed his undergraduate studies with top marks in Economics at Sapienza University of Rome (1982-1988).

Professor Marini's research focuses on the intersection of Game Theory, Microeconomics, Industrial Organization, and Public Economics. His work examines the stability of cooperation among coalitions and groups, the effects of firms' collusive agreements in vertically differentiated markets, and the cooperation between NGOs and non-profit organizations. He has made significant contributions to understanding market competition, cartel formation, environmental economics, and the economics of non-profit organizations. His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on strategic behavior in markets, particularly examining how quality differentiation affects market outcomes, the dynamics of collusion in various market structures, and the intersection of environmental concerns with economic behavior.

Professor Marini serves as Section Editor-in-chief of Games (MDPI) since 2022 and was Editor-in-chief of Annals of Public and Cooperative Economics (Wiley-Blackwell) from 2016. He has been actively involved in the academic community through editorial boards and conference organization. His current research projects include 'Hospital Competition and Quality: A Theoretical and Empirical Investigation,' 'Is Environmentalism the Right Strategy to Decarbonize the World? Green Consumers, Firms and Nongovernmental Organizations: a Game-theoretic Approach,' 'Delegation in Non-governmental and Non-profit Organizations,' and 'The Effects of Mergers in Quality-segmented Markets.'
