معرفی
Marco Lino LEONARDI is a Senior Researcher in Medieval History (SSD M-STO/01) at the Department of Humanities of the University of Catania, where he conducts research and teaches. He was trained at the Universities of Catania, Freiburg im Breisgau, and Jena and maintains active international collaborations with institutions such as the FOVOG at the Technical University of Dresden and the German-Italian Cultural Center "Villa Vigoni." He is also a corresponding member of the Romanian Institute for the Roman Görres Society (RIGG).
His research interests include the history of mendicant orders, medieval water resource management, and German-Italian relations during the 13th to 16th centuries. He has authored significant monographs on the Sicilian Vespers in German historiography, water use in Freiburg and Catania, and the historiographical analysis of medieval studies under Italian fascism. His publications also explore interdisciplinary topics such as the historical foundations of fantasy literature, including Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons.
The recent articles reflect a strong focus on late medieval religious, environmental, and political history, with recurring themes in Sicilian and German-Italian comparative studies. His work often bridges historical analysis with cultural reception and modern reinterpretations of the medieval past.
He is actively involved in academic service, serving on the editorial board of Archivio Storico Siracusano and managing the CLIO editorial series. He regularly supervises undergraduate theses on diverse medieval topics, from heresies and political power to gender roles and cultural phenomena.
He also contributes to pedagogy through tutoring, student reception, and participation in degree sessions. He has developed a guide on citation systems for thesis students, which he distributes via email.
