Dr. Marcin Wiatr is a Polish-German historian and researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute since 2013, serving as Scientific Coordinator for the Joint German-Polish Textbook Commission and German-Czech Textbook Commission. He studied German Studies, History, and Education at Opole and Kiel universities (1994-1999), earned his PhD in 2016 with a study on Wojciech Korfanty's literary and memory politics, and completed postgraduate studies in interpreting at Jagiellonian University.
His research focuses on

- Sports history as cultural memory
- Role of intellectuals in totalitarian systems
Key scientific achievements include the 2024 award for the German-Polish textbook series 'Europe – Our History' by the Polish Academy of Learning. He has led third-party funded projects like Hi-Story V (2022-2023) and Hi-Story III (2019-2020), while organizing major academic events including the 2024 European Forum for Reconciliation conference on Ukrainian history education.
As a lecturer at TU Braunschweig and Magdeburg University (2010-2013), he shaped courses on transnational regionalism and multicultural borderland studies. His work bridges academic research with public engagement through book presentations, policy discussions, and media contributions.
