Dr. Marcie L. Venter is an Associate Professor of Archaeology and Undergraduate Program Coordinator at Murray State University's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. She directs the Venter Lab of Integrative Human Ecosystems and Archaeology, focusing on anthropological archaeology with interdisciplinary connections to geology, geography, and ecology. A Faculty Ambassador for Study Abroad and mentor in Murray State's Peace Corps Prep Program and Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society, she actively engages students in field and lab research.

Her research explores cultural interactions during transformative periods like imperial expansion, colonialism, and climate change, particularly in Mesoamerica, the Caribbean, and North America. She specializes in analyzing archaeological ceramics, ethnohistorical accounts, and historical records to understand local-level negotiations during global-scale changes, with emphasis on Contact Era contexts.
Current research funded by the National Science Foundation examines sugarcane agriculture's cultural, historical, and environmental dimensions in Veracruz, Mexico. She also contributes to professional organizations and heritage policy through her roles with KYOPA and the Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission.
