Marcia Anderson is a Senior Community Faculty Member in the College of Individualized Studies at Metro State University. She retired as Director of the Student-Directed Learning (SDL) Office in 2021 and was named Director Emerita. Her career spans decades of teaching courses such as Perspectives 301: Educational Philosophy and Planning, Metro 100: Getting Credit for What You Know, and Metro 101: Your Academic Journey. She co-founded the Credit for Prior Learning Assessment Network (C-PLAN) as its interim director (2018-2019) and previously held roles in admissions counseling and academic advising.
Anderson earned a BA in community journalism from Metro State (1977) and an MA in adult learning and development from St. Mary’s University (1991). Her research focuses on expanding adult education, recognizing experiential learning, and advocating for diverse learning pathways. She also explores political/social justice, gardening, and family history through lifelong learning.

Her professional contributions include advancing academic assessment frameworks and promoting credit recognition for non-traditional learning experiences. She continues to advocate for inclusive education through community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.
