Marci Shore is Professor of History at Yale University specializing in modern European intellectual history, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe. Her research examines political history through alternative perspectives to nationalist narratives, focusing on Jewish experiences and the Enlightenment's relationship to religion.
Key publications include 'Jewish Emancipation' arguing civil rights attainment defines modern Jewish history, 'The Ukrainian Night' documenting the Euromaidan revolution, and 'Caviar and Ashes' chronicling Warsaw intellectuals' engagement with Marxism. Current projects investigate phenomenology in East-Central Europe and historical comparison methodologies.
Shore received a Guggenheim Fellowship for her phenomenology research and regularly serves as visiting fellow at Vienna's Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen. She co-curates the 'On the Uses and Disadvantages of Historical Comparisons' forum.
