Marcel Spannenberger is a Doctoral Candidate and Research Associate at the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 138 - Dynamics of Security, Subproject C01 at Philipps-Universität Marburg. He holds an MA in History of International Politics with Peace and Conflict Studies and Political Science (2022) and a BA in History with Political Science (2019), both from Philipps-Universität Marburg. His research focuses on the interplay between security, sovereignty, and European integration, particularly analyzing monetary and financial policy developments from 1970 to 2002.
His current doctoral project examines how crises and concepts of security influenced state sovereignty within the European multilevel system. He has presented talks on topics such as European monetary integration's impact on national security and Nazi-era local governance structures. He has been a scholarship holder of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung since 2018.
His teaching includes co-leading a seminar on the dynamics of European integration from the European Community's founding to the Euro's introduction. Professional experience includes roles as a student assistant in CRC 138 and at the Herder-Institute's research library.
