Marcel Preuss is an Assistant Professor of Economics and Business Strategy at Cornell University's SC Johnson Graduate School of Management, part of the Cornell College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a PhD in Economics (2018) and dual degrees from the University of Mannheim (M.Sc. Economic Research 2014; B.Sc. Business Administration 2012). His research focuses on Industrial Organization in digital markets, behavioral economics, and antitrust issues, particularly analyzing firms' strategies in imperfectly competitive environments and the impact of digital tracking on market outcomes. He has also explored behavioral biases in decision-making and social preferences related to inequality.
Teaching responsibilities include the Business Strategy core module for full-time MBA students. His work bridges theoretical models with practical applications, such as advising an online education company on subscription pricing strategies. Preuss has professional experience in consulting, logistics, and private equity sectors before academia.
Research interests include algorithmic systems in social media, platform economics, and experimental studies on fairness and redistribution. His recent studies investigate how consumer tracking reduces search incentives, diminishing industry profits, and how perceptions of social mobility influence acceptance of inequality.
