Prof. Marc van Dijk is a Professor at the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Medical Sciences, affiliated with the Biology-Related, Artificial, and Interventional Neuroscience (BRAIN) department. His expertise spans neurovascular diseases, electrical brain stimulation, and deep brain stimulation (DBS), with a focus on Parkinson’s disease and dystonia. He holds an MSc in Neurovascular Diseases from Université Paris Sud.
His research emphasizes translational neuroscience, including surgical techniques for neuroendocrine tumors, imaging innovations, and biomarker development for movement disorders. Recent work involves fluorescence-guided surgery, cost-effectiveness analyses in spine surgery, and DBS efficacy metrics using intermuscular coherence.
Prof. van Dijk has supervised 11 PhD/graduate students and contributed to datasets like ‘Predictive value of the microlesion effect on motor and cognitive outcome after Deep Brain Stimulation’ and ‘DTI-enhanced targeting in DBS-surgery’. He actively participates in academic activities, including peer reviews and public engagement on topics like auditory brainstem implants for tinnitus.
