معرفی
Marc W. Haut, PhD, ABPP, is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist serving as Professor in the Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry at West Virginia University School of Medicine. He also directs the Memory Health Clinic at the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. Joining WVU faculty in 1989 as an assistant professor, Haut has established himself as an active clinician, educator, and researcher with significant contributions to the field of cognitive neuroscience and memory disorders.
Education:
- PhD, University of North Dakota, 1988
Haut's research program centers on human memory systems, particularly episodic and working memory. He employs structural and functional neuroimaging techniques (MRI volumetrics, DTI, PET, and fMRI) to investigate brain changes associated with aging, Alzheimer's disease, and toxic exposures. His work examines how cognitive reserve influences age-related brain changes and investigates the neural mechanisms underlying memory processes in both healthy individuals and clinical populations, including those with epilepsy and cognitive impairment.
Analysis of Haut's recent publications (2024-2025) reveals a strong focus on Alzheimer's disease biomarkers, mild cognitive impairment, and innovative treatment approaches. His research increasingly integrates advanced neuroimaging with cognitive assessment to identify early markers of neurodegenerative disease. A notable trend is his involvement in pioneering work on focused ultrasound technology for treating Alzheimer's disease and substance use disorders, representing a significant translational research direction.
Scientific Recognition:
- Faculty Research Award 2013 in the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry
Haut has directed neuropsychology training programs and expanded WVU's clinical services to address critical public health needs, particularly the opioid epidemic through Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) initiatives. He has developed the department's research infrastructure to support novel treatment programs for addiction services and expanded psychiatric care to underserved areas of West Virginia through Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) programs and telepsychiatry.
As Director of the Memory Health Clinic at the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, Haut leads a multidisciplinary team focused on diagnosing and treating memory disorders. His work intersects with the Institute's innovative research on focused ultrasound for neurodegenerative diseases, where he collaborates with neurosurgeons and neurologists on clinical trials investigating blood-brain barrier opening techniques for Alzheimer's treatment.
