Marc Talon serves as the Regional Curator of Archaeology for Burgundy-Franche-Comté at the DRAC (Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles), part of the French Ministry of Culture, a position he has held since November 2016. He maintains a permanent affiliation with HALMA UMR-8164, a joint research unit of the University of Lille, CNRS, and Ministry of Culture, though his governmental duties limit his time for academic activities. His career spans over three decades in French archaeology, including leadership roles at AFAN and Inrap.
Specializing in Bronze Age archaeology, particularly the Ancient Bronze Age to Early La Tène period in Northwest Europe, Talon's research focuses on settlement patterns, funerary practices, and cultural transitions. He coordinates the PCR HABATA project on habitat from the Ancient Bronze Age to Early La Tène in Hauts de France and has established international collaborations with British, Dutch, and Belgian colleagues through the Manche-Mer du Nord cultural entity. His work often involves large-scale national projects, including the coordination of a national Inrap inter-institutional survey on Bronze Age and Early Iron Age habitat and land use.
Talon's publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly output, with numerous articles spanning from 2018-2023 focusing on Bronze Age archaeology, settlement patterns, and regional archaeological policy. His work shows a strong emphasis on both theoretical approaches to prehistoric Europe and practical applications in cultural heritage management. The publications reveal a researcher deeply engaged with both academic discourse and practical archaeological administration.

As Regional Curator, Talon oversees archaeological activities in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, managing research programs and heritage preservation. He has been instrumental in organizing numerous international conferences focused on Bronze Age studies and serves on editorial boards for several archaeological journals. His current major project is the 'Bronze 2025' initiative, which will feature an international exhibition at the National Archaeology Museum and regional exhibitions throughout France, alongside scholarly publications in both French and English.
Talon is a member of the PCR HABATA research group focused on Bronze Age habitat studies in Northern France. His work bridges governmental cultural heritage management with academic research, contributing significantly to the understanding of prehistoric Europe while ensuring practical application in cultural resource management.
