Marc S. Buslik

Marc S. Buslik is an Adjunct Professor at Illinois Institute of Technology’s Master of Public Administration program. A retired 39-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department (CPD), he held key roles including District Commander of the 19th and 14th Districts, liaison to the U.S. Department of Justice during their civil rights investigation, and terrorism liaison officer. He received the 2023 Innovation in Policing Award for his Collaborative Police Legitimacy model and mental health crisis response framework.

Education: PhD in Criminology, Law & Justice (University of Illinois at Chicago); MPA (UIC); BA in Criminal Justice with Computer Science minor (Northeastern Illinois University); Graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.

Research focuses on procedural justice, police accountability, spatial crime analysis, and officer wellness. He has authored over a dozen publications and presented nationally on policing and criminal justice topics. Currently leads U.S. Department of Homeland Security-funded training for first responders on radiation/nuclear incident response.

Affiliations include teaching at UIC’s Criminology department and Oakton Community College. Served on CPD’s initial law enforcement accreditation team and FBI’s Terrorism Liaison Officers Committee.
