Marc Pierce serves as the Department Chair and Associate Professor in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. His academic expertise spans historical linguistics, Germanic linguistics and philology, history of linguistics, phonology, and Scandinavian studies.
He earned his Ph.D. in Germanic Linguistics from the University of Michigan. His research concentrates on historical linguistics with emphasis on historical phonology and etymology, alongside the history of linguistics.
Professor Pierce teaches a comprehensive range of courses including:
- Intro To Synchronic Linguistics: German (GER 381) in Fall 2025, Fall 2023, and Fall 2022
- Intro To Diachronic Linguistics: German (GER 381/LIN 383) in Fall 2024 and Fall 2022

His teaching extends to German language and literature, Scandinavian literature, and Great Books seminars, demonstrating interdisciplinary engagement across linguistic and cultural studies.
