His research focuses on Germanic historical linguistics, particularly sound changes (consonant shifts, lenition, gemination), dialectology of Upper German and Scandinavian varieties, and the interplay between linguistic typology and language contact. He teaches courses on comparative Germanic linguistics, English etymology, German sociolinguistics, and medieval literature including chivalric poetry, heroic epics, and Scandinavian mythology.
Recent publications analyze lenition patterns across Germanic languages, quantity systems in North Sea dialects, and aspiration mechanisms in consonant shifts. His work reveals connections between phonological evolution and sociolinguistic factors like Danish hegemony in North Frisian contexts.
