Marc Oxenham is Professor of Bioarchaeology at the Australian National University and British Academy Global Professor at the University of Aberdeen. His research reconstructs health, disease, and adaptation patterns in Holocene Southeast Asia.
His work integrates skeletal biology, archaeology, and chemistry to investigate human responses to climate change, technological transitions, and social transformations across Southeast Asia. Current projects examine physiological stress indicators in dental remains, develop new paleodemographic methods, and establish time-since-death models for forensic applications.
Professor Oxenham has pioneered research on the bioarchaeology of care, revealing healthcare practices in prehistoric communities. As consultant to the Unrecovered War Casualties Unit-Army, he applies forensic expertise to recover and identify historical military remains across multiple conflict zones.
