معرفی
Marc Levenston is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, with a courtesy appointment in Radiology. He is affiliated with the Bio-X Program, Cardiovascular Institute, Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance, and Maternal & Child Health Research Institute (MCHRI). His research focuses on the biomechanics of articular cartilage and fibrocartilage, including degeneration mechanisms, imaging techniques for cartilage assessment, and tissue engineering. He has advised numerous students and holds several prestigious awards, including the Tau Beta Pi Teaching Award and the Negma-Lerads International Prize.
Education:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Stanford University (1995)
- MS in Mechanical Engineering, Stanford University (1990)
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, University of Florida (1989)
Research Interests:
His lab explores the interplay of biophysical and biochemical cues in cartilage degeneration, novel imaging methods for nondestructive cartilage analysis, and engineered tissue models. Key areas include mechanisms of cartilage degeneration, CT/MRI contrast agent effects, and osteoarthritis biomarkers.
Publications:
Recent work spans from artificial meat mechanics to MRI-derived myocardial stiffness validation. His articles emphasize imaging advancements and cartilage mechanics under physiological conditions. Frequent subtopics include CT contrast dynamics, cartilage T2 relaxation, and vascular stiffness modeling.
Awards:
- Professor of the Year (2016)
- ASME Fellow (2009)
- Negma-Lerads Prize (2005)
Advising & Grants:
Levenston has guided doctoral and master’s students on projects involving cartilage mechanics and imaging. His grants support research into musculoskeletal soft tissues and regenerative strategies.
Labs/Teams:
He leads the Soft Tissue Biomechanics Lab at Stanford, focusing on translational research in cartilage repair and imaging technologies.
