Marc Hanvelt is Associate Professor in Carleton University's Department of Political Science, specializing in David Hume, Scottish Enlightenment, and democratic theory. He holds a PhD from University of Toronto and degrees from University of British Columbia.
His research investigates historical conceptions of political judgment, rhetoric in philosophical discourse, and Hume's accounts of political courage. Current projects include co-editing Hume's 'History of England' for Oxford University Press and examining history's relationship to political judgment in Enlightenment thought.
