Mark G. Spencer is Professor of History at Brock University, specializing in 18th-century intellectual history across the British Atlantic world. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, he leads the 8-volume critical edition of David Hume's History of England (Oxford UP) and a SSHRC-funded study of American Enlightenment figure John Beale Bordley.
His research explores the reception of Hume, Burke, and Enlightenment thought in America. Spencer has authored/edited 20+ volumes, including The Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of the American Enlightenment and prize-winning monograph David Hume and Eighteenth-Century America. He co-edits Hume Studies and contributes to the Wall Street Journal and Times Literary Supplement.
