Marc Fontecave is a Professor at the Collège de France since 2008. Previously, he held academic positions at Joseph Fourier University (1988-2008) and served as a Researcher at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS-René Descartes University of Paris V) from 1985-1988. His educational background includes a Doctorate in Science (1984) and PhD (1981) from the University of Paris VI, post-doctoral study at Karolinska Institute (1985-1986), and early research experience at CNRS-ENS Ulm (1980-1984).
His research focuses on interdisciplinary areas bridging chemistry and biology, particularly in Chemistry of Biological Processes, Catalysis and biocatalysis, and Bioinorganic chemistry. These interests extend to Protein chemistry, Coordination chemistry, and Bioinspired chemistry, reflecting a broad exploration of molecular mechanisms and chemical innovations inspired by biological systems.
Marc Fontecave has received significant recognition for his contributions, including:
- Member of the Academia Europaea (2010)
- Medaille d’argent du CNRS (2004)
- Policart-Lacassagne Award of the Academie des sciences (1996)
- Membership in the Institut Universitaire de France (Junior: 1992-1996; Senior: 2005-2008)
