Marc D. Porosoff is a researcher at the University of Rochester, specializing in catalysis for sustainable energy and chemical production. His work focuses on developing advanced catalysts for CO2 capture and conversion, heterogeneous thermal catalysis, and reactive separations. He pioneered the use of large language models (LLMs) to represent catalysts through synthesis procedures and reaction conditions.
His research includes CO2 hydrogenation, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and reverse water-gas shift reactions, with a particular emphasis on materials like tungsten carbide and molybdenum carbide. Porosoff has received notable awards such as the Scialog Negative Emissions Science Fellowships (2022-2023), Wadsworth C. Sykes Engineering Faculty Awards (2021-2022), and University Research Awards at the University of Rochester (2018-2022).
Porosoff's recent publications highlight advancements in catalyst design, including single-atom alloys, core-shell structures, and tandem systems. His work addresses critical challenges in carbon utilization, energy storage, and sustainable plastics/fuels production. He has also explored catalyst scale-up processes, from molecular to pilot scale.
