Marc Carnicer Heras is an Assistant Professor at the Bioengineering Department of the IQS School of Engineering, Ramon Llull University. His research focuses on metabolic engineering, bioprocess development, and microbial physiology with applications in industrial biotechnology and sustainable production of high-value compounds.
He leads or collaborates in multiple research projects, including CROPSAFE (environmentally-friendly agriculture), GLYCOENGIN (glycoenzyme engineering), and paCOSVALOR (chitosan oligosaccharide production). His work integrates genomic analysis, metabolic pathway optimization, and bioprocess scale-up strategies.
Recent research highlights include developing genetic tools for chloroplast engineering in microalgae, optimizing vitamin B12 production in Propionibacterium freudenreichii, and analyzing metabolic landscapes of methylotrophic bacteria. His contributions span synthetic biology, bioreactor design, and systems biology approaches to improve industrial microbial strains.
- Grants/Projects: CROPSAFE (EU), GLYCOENGIN (2023-2026), paCOSVALOR (2022-2024)
- Key Research Themes: Industrial strain engineering, metabolomics, continuous bioprocess systems
