Dr. Marc A. Hight is the Thompson Professor of Philosophy at Hampden-Sydney College, affiliated with the Department of Philosophy. His office is located in Johns 205. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Syracuse University (1999), an M.A. in Philosophy and History from Florida State University (1992, 1993), and dual B.A. degrees in Philosophy and International Affairs from Florida State University (1990).
Research Interests: Dr. Hight specializes in Early Modern philosophy (1600-1800), metaphysics, epistemology, and interdisciplinary studies connecting philosophy with history, economics, and social sciences. His work explores philosophical themes in science fiction literature and examines political economy through the lens of intellectual history.
Service Roles: He coordinates the Escape Hampden-Sydney program, advises the Strategy Game Club and Chess Club, participates in Student-Faculty-Staff Basketball, and previously served as Ethics Bowl Coordinator.
Other Interests: Strategy wargaming, historical discussions, basketball, hockey, music, and dachshunds.
