Maral Sarebanzadeh

Dr. Maral Sarebanzadeh is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) since April 2025. She is affiliated with the Institute for Applied Materials – Mechanics of Materials and Interfaces (IAM-MMI) and the Hydrogen Micromechanics Group, focusing on hydrogen embrittlement and in situ microstructure characterization.

• Education: Ph.D. in Materials Sciences (2020–2024, Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain), MSc in Materials Science-Metal Forming (2012–2015, University of Tehran, Iran) with a focus on metallurgy, and BSc in Industrial Metallurgy (2007–2012, Iran University of Science & Technology, Iran).

Research Interests: Her work centers on the mechanics of materials, particularly hydrogen embrittlement, which involves studying how hydrogen atoms degrade metal mechanical properties. She also specializes in in situ microstructure characterization, analyzing material structures under real-time stress conditions. Additional interests include additive manufacturing and fusion materials, as indicated by her involvement with the Fusion Materials Laboratory at KIT.
