She investigates how concepts of nation, state, and family have evolved in Chinese history and how these concepts intersect with global developments.
Her scholarly output demonstrates consistent engagement with major historical questions in Chinese studies, with publications spanning legal history, gender studies, diplomatic history, and political thought. Her work reveals patterns connecting historical Chinese concepts of statehood with contemporary political developments, particularly regarding the relationship between family structures and state power.
