María Muñoz Rico is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Salamanca, holding a Ramón y Cajal Postdoctoral Contract since January 2022. She is affiliated with the Faculty of Translation and Documentation and is an active member of the GIR e-Lectra Research Group on Electronic Publishing and Digital Literacy and the Institute of Medieval and Renaissance Studies and Digital Humanities (IEMYRhd).
Dr. Muñoz Rico earned her PhD from the University of Salamanca in June 2020 with an Outstanding qualification, Cum Laude distinction, and the USAL Extraordinary Award. Her doctoral research focused on "Reading and Readers in the Knowledge Society: The Canonical Bestseller: The Case of Harry Potter" under the supervision of Araceli García Rodríguez and José Antonio Cordón García.
Her research interests span Library Science, Information Science, Digital Literacy, and Education. With expertise in documentation and library science, her work addresses critical issues in school libraries, digital competencies in university environments, and the visibility of scientific monographs. She has contributed to important discussions on restructuring school libraries as educational resource centers for learning (BECREA) and has examined digital competencies in higher education settings.
Dr. Muñoz Rico's publications demonstrate a consistent focus on library science, information management, and educational applications. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications in school and university library systems, digital literacy initiatives, and research evaluation methodologies.

With prior experience working at the Municipal Archive of Salamanca, the Coordinating Center of Libraries of the Salamanca Provincial Council, and the Archive of the Civil War of Salamanca, Dr. Muñoz Rico brings practical institutional knowledge to her academic research. As a former collaborating member of the OBIC (Bibliometrics and Scientific Research Observatory), she has contributed to bibliometric studies and research evaluation frameworks.
Currently, as a Ramón y Cajal researcher, she continues her work with the GIR e-Lectra group, focusing on electronic publishing and digital literacy, while also contributing to the interdisciplinary work of the Institute of Medieval and Renaissance Studies and Digital Humanities.
