Dr. Mao Lu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. His research focuses on causal inference, missing data methodologies, and semiparametric theory with applications in clinical trials, diagnostic radiology, and cardiovascular disease. He has expertise in statistical learning techniques and their integration with medical imaging technologies such as MRI and CT.
Dr. Lu's work spans interdisciplinary collaborations in oncology, urology, and emergency medicine. He has contributed to advancements in histotripsy ablation techniques, image synthesis using deep learning architectures (e.g., Swin Transformer), and novel statistical methods for composite endpoint analysis in clinical trials. His research also addresses practical challenges in healthcare systems, including cost analyses of multidisciplinary conferences and optimization of CT scan workflows in emergency departments.
His publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on translational research, bridging statistical theory with real-world medical applications. Dr. Lu maintains an active research website at https://lmaowisc.github.io, and his contact information includes an office in the WARF Building on the UW-Madison campus.
