Fred Lee

Fred Lee, MD, is a Professor of Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Urology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He holds the Robert A. Turrell Professorship of Imaging Science and has served as Chief of Abdominal Imaging and Intervention, Chief of Oncologic Imaging, and Senior Vice Chair of the Radiology Department.

• Education: MD from Boston University’s Six-Year Medical Program, internship at the University of Massachusetts, and radiology residency at the University of Rochester.

Dr. Lee specializes in cancer imaging and interventions, focusing on percutaneous tumor ablation, minimally invasive imaging techniques, and CT dose reduction. He pioneered the Tumor Ablation Laboratory at UW in 1995 and has contributed over 300 publications, 20 book chapters, and 24 patents.

His scientific achievements have earned him more than 50 honors, including the Society of Interventional Radiology Gold Medal and the Wisconsin Biohealth Summit’s Hector F. DeLuca Scientific Achievement Award. Dr. Lee is a founder of three medical device companies: Cellectar, Inc., Elucent Medical, Inc., and NeuWave Medical Inc. (acquired by Ethicon in 2016).
