Manya Oriel Kagan is a Visiting Scholar at Perry World House, University of Pennsylvania, and a postdoctoral research fellow under the 'Global Shifts: Migration, Urbanization, and Climate Change' initiative. She holds a PhD from Ben Gurion University's School of Education, an MA in International Development from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a BA in Comparative Religions.

Research Interests: Focuses on refugee and migrant children’s rights to education in urban settings (East Africa/Middle East), development policy, social justice, and migration impacts. Her work explores how these dynamics shape education systems and child rights, particularly in Global South contexts.
Publications: Her articles address themes like refugee integration strategies, intersectional barriers for girls in Uganda, and depoliticization in Israeli schools. She contributes to journals such as Girlhood Studies, Race, Ethnicity and Education, and NEOS.
Advising & Teaching: Supervises Master’s students at RSUC, Oslo, and teaches at Ben Gurion University in courses like 'Youth in Africa' and 'African Sustainable Communities.'
Labs/Teams: Co-editor of the American Anthropological Association's Anthropology of Childhood (NEOS) and co-edited the Hebrew book Development in Africa.
