Manuelle Lago Marques

Manuelle Lago Marques is a researcher specializing in the geography of vines and wine, social geography, and geography of risks. She holds a doctorate in Sociology from University Paris Ouest – Nanterre La Défense and maintains an active teaching profile alongside research activities.

Research Interests

Her primary research focuses on the Geography of Vines and Wine, examining territories, landscapes, and societies of Douro and Porto wines; wine as a lever for territorial development and competitiveness in globalization; consumer markets; and epistemology of wine geography. In Social Geography, she investigates social workers during the Covid-19 pandemic and poverty in French territories. Formerly, she studied tsunami risk in Indonesia.

Geographically, her work spans Mediterranean regions, Maghreb, Morocco, Oasis environments, and cultural landscapes, analyzing how these contexts shape socioeconomic dynamics and spatial organization.

Research Projects

She currently serves as an associate researcher in the TransAgri project (2021–present) on agricultural crises in France, led by Monique Poulot, Stéphane Angles, and François Legouy. Previously, she contributed to the ANR-funded COSI Research Program (2021–2022) on pandemic resilience at University of Paris Cité. Earlier collaborations included the INNOVINE & WINE Research Program (2016–2019) with University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and the multinational TSUNARISQUE project (2005–2007) on Indonesian tsunami risk, involving five French universities, two Indonesian institutions, and CNRS research units.
