معرفی
Manuela Zaccolo is a Professor of Cell Biology at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, University of Oxford. She serves as Deputy Head of Department and Director of the Burdon Sanderson Cardiac Sciences Centre, while also holding a Fellowship in Pre-Clinical Medicine at Balliol College. Her career spans institutions including the University of Torino, University of Cambridge, University of Padova, and University of Glasgow, where she established her research group in 2007 as a Reader before moving to Oxford in 2012.
- Education: MD from University of Torino, Italy
- Postdoctoral: LMB, MRC, Cambridge, UK (Protein Engineering, In Vitro Molecular Evolution)
Her research investigates how cells integrate external stimuli through intracellular signaling networks, with a focus on cyclic nucleotide (cAMP) signaling in the heart and other systems. She pioneered fluorescent sensors for real-time cAMP imaging, uncovering compartmentalized signaling nanodomains that govern cardiac contractility and hypertrophy. Key themes include signal transduction specificity, local regulation, and translating these findings into therapeutic strategies for human disease.
Recent publications emphasize cAMP nanodomains, phase separation in signaling, and phosphodiesterase drug targets, reflecting her innovative approach to understanding signal compartmentalization. Her work has been highlighted in journals such as British Journal of Pharmacology and Physiological Reviews.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB)
Manuela's research is supported by her leadership in the Zaccolo Research Group and affiliations with the British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence. She continues to explore the intersection of signaling architecture and cardiac disease pathology.
