Manuel Velasquez is the Charles J. Dirksen Professor of Business Ethics at Santa Clara University, holding appointments in both the Department of Management and the Department of Philosophy. He is renowned for authoring Business Ethics: Concepts and Cases, a globally influential textbook. His research spans business ethics, moral reasoning, organizational politics, and the intersection of religion with corporate responsibility. Velasquez teaches courses in business ethics, public policy, and strategy, and has advised over 2,000 faculty on teaching ethics. He earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Gonzaga University and a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley.
His work explores ethical dilemmas in modern contexts like AI, social media, and environmental stewardship. Recent articles address the ethics of the attention economy, corporate responsibility in AI, and religious influences on managerial decisions.
