Dr. Manuel Rausch is an Associate Professor at The University of Texas at Austin, holding joint appointments in the Departments of Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering. He holds the General Dynamics Endowed Faculty Fellowship. His research focuses on soft-tissue biomechanics, cardiovascular device design, and material modeling. He leads the Soft Tissue Biomechanics Laboratory, which investigates right-sided cardiovascular diseases and develops predictive tools for diagnosis and therapy.
Dr. Rausch earned his PhD from Stanford University in 2013, followed by industry experience as Director of R&D at a medical device company and a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University. He joined UT Austin in 2017 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2023.
Research interests include blood clot mechanics, heart valve dynamics, and tissue-material interactions. Key projects involve computational modeling, experimental testing, and clinical collaborations. He has received major grants including NSF CAREER and NIH R01 awards.
His lab advises multiple students and postdocs, with recent milestones including student fellowships (e.g., AHA awards) and publications in top journals like Acta Biomaterialia and Biomechanics and Modeling in Mechanobiology. Collaborations involve institutions like Washington University and NC State.
