Manuel Pelmuş is Associate Professor and Pro-Rector for Research at Oslo National Academy of the Arts' Academy of Fine Arts. An acclaimed choreographer and artist, his practice explores live presence as artistic strategy, examining bodily relationships to memory and history through enactments.
His research investigates choreography as historical re-mediation, using the human body to reinterpret cultural artifacts and art historical references. Recent projects include 'Permanent Collection' – ongoing live interventions reimagining museum collections through corporeal interpretation.
Major exhibitions include Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, and Venice Biennale (2013 Romanian Pavilion). Awarded the Berlin Art Prize (2012) and Romanian National Dance Center Prize (2015), his work pioneers the 'new performance turn' in contemporary art.
